  • One textual example of an oxymoron is the following: "As the light faded, deep blue gaps of night peered through like an upside-down ocean, bottomless and cold." (p.3)



  • I think Tally decided to wear a mask to the "white tie party" because she didn't want anyone to see her face. Also, Tally was probably worried about "pretties" making fun of her for being ugly.

  • "A form of disguise. It is an object that is frequently worn over or in front of the face to hide the identity of a person and by it's own features to establish another human being. This essential characteristic of hiding and revealing personalities or moods is common to all masks. As cultural objects they have been uses throughout the world in all periods from the stone age and have been as varied in appearance as in their use and symbolism."
