"Shay" p.23

  • After Tally escapes from the mansion by bungee jumping off, she runs into the unforgiving forest to hide. As she hides from everyone, she meets a girl that goes by the name of Shay. As it turns out, Shay ends up being an ugly with the same personality as Tally. After they discuss their escape plans, Tally and Shay escape from the forest.

  • Shay is a girl, specifically an ugly, that has alot in common with Tally. I believe that since, as of now, they like each other, their friendship will go far. Also, I predict that they will be together through out the book because they are practically alone in the mysterious world.

"Best Friends Forever" p.11

  • I think New Pretty town advocates bungee jumping because it is an easy way to escape danger such as fires, land slides, earthquakes, etc.

  • "Bungee has quite an old origin. The idea of this way of jumping comes from the ancient ritual "Gkol" performed in the Pentecost island in the Pacific Archipelago of Vanuatu. The legend says that in the village Bunlap a man called Tamalie had a quarrel with his wife ans she ran away and climbed a Banyan tree where she wrapped her ancles with Liana vines. When Tamalie came up to her, the women jumped from the tree and so did her husband not knowing what her wife had done. So he died but the women survived. The men of Bunlap were very impressed by this performance and they had began to practice such jumps in case they got in similar situations. This practice transformed into a ritual for rich yam harvests and also for proving manhood. Modern bungee jumping as we know it today actually started on the first of April (fools' day) 1979 when group of people from the oxford University Dangerous sport club, impressed by a film about "vine Jumpers", jumped from 245-Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol, England. Using nylon braided, rubber shock cord instead of vines, and dressed in their customary top hat and tails, they performed a four man simultaneous jump. The enthusiasts promptly were arrested for this. But at least hit the world press the next day. The new adrenaline mania has been started. The D.S.C performed many other jumps, including one off the Golden Gate Bridge. In early 1988, A.j Hackett and Chriss Allum, opened the first commercial jump site in Ohakune, New Zealand. Hackett also made a great commercial show in 1987 when he jumped from the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

As part of the site publicity, Hackett performed an astounding bungee jump from the Eiffel Tower! Nowadays there have already been alot of towers, cranes, bridges and even hot-air balloons serving as platforms for jumping and bungee is the simplest and easily understood of the aerial extreme sports."

  • Tally- Considered an ugly, she's a girl, and she is friends with a pretty.
  • Peris- Male, he is considered a pretty, and he is friends with Tally, an ugly.

  • Personally, I don't think Tally and Peris's friendship is strong enough. The reason I say this is because, if Peris was a true friend with Tally, then Peris would obviously make time to see Tally. For example, when Tally escaped from the party, Peris could have left with her instead of leaving her on her own.

  • One textual example of an oxymoron is the following: "As the light faded, deep blue gaps of night peered through like an upside-down ocean, bottomless and cold." (p.3)

  • I think Tally decided to wear a mask to the "white tie party" because she didn't want anyone to see her face. Also, Tally was probably worried about "pretties" making fun of her for being ugly.

  • "A form of disguise. It is an object that is frequently worn over or in front of the face to hide the identity of a person and by it's own features to establish another human being. This essential characteristic of hiding and revealing personalities or moods is common to all masks. As cultural objects they have been uses throughout the world in all periods from the stone age and have been as varied in appearance as in their use and symbolism."

  • This information relates to why Tally wore the mask, because it explains that the mask she used was to hide the identity of her face.

  • Well, truthfully, I recently moved from a small city in Conroe, but I stay intact with my old friends from several year back.

  1. interface ring - I believe that an interface ring is a ring that enables you to communicate with a computer(s).

  2. Toothbrush pill- I think a toothbrush pill is a pill that brushes your teeth for you.

  3. Cacophony- A cacophony is basically a jarring sound.

  • I define beauty as something magnificent, or wonderful for the eye to see.

If everyone in this whole world were to be pretty, I believe that the world would be Farly boring. For instance, if Bill gates were to be in the " good looking" group, so to speak, he probably wouldn't have been the millionaire he is now.

This picture looks beautiful to me because, i think lake water, or water in general, makes me feal relaxed.

This picture is ugly beacuse the building has no base, and it just looks run down.
