"The Model"

" Kind of professional pretty. I guess when everyone else is ugly, being pretty is sorf of, like, your job."

• Shays quote is a great description of a model, because it shows how models professionally dress up to be pretty. The reason anyone could tell that her description is a model is because it specifically says that is the persons job... BEING PRETTY!
  

• Tally and Shay think the way our generation(s) is crazy for some of the actions we do such as starving ourselves to look prettier, but actually it is somewhat normal for us. I believe Tally and Shay need to put more logic behind the way they imagine us.

List the important events of the chapter in chronological order.

1. Tally gets caught in the horrific fire
2. Rangers pick her up and save her from death
3. The rangers transport Tally to the smoke in their machine.
4. Tally starts her journey, once again to find Shay.

"... Tally was stuck out here in the wild forever. Ugly for life. her only way home was to betray her best friend."

• To me, this quote is very depressing. Tally put herself in a very difficult position. My opinion for Tally would be to keep searching for Shay. I believe it's to late to go back.

• I think the flying machine was a machine that protects the smoke, and rusty ruins general area. Inside the flying machine were most defiantly the firebug eye people/things because it mentions them in her key. I think the machine will be a very big conflict with her on her trip.

"The worst Mistakes"

• In my life time, I have done several things that I didn't want to do. The most memorable one was when I had to get on my sisters horse because my dad wanted me to ride horses with him. I have never been a fan of horses because they have done pretty harsh things to my family.

Predict what you think will happen next.

• I think after the machine messes with Tally, Tally will regroup to a new location and the random machine, so to speak, will follow her for some thing she did or has done.

• If I were on a journey like Tally is, I would invent dried ribs. You would make it by putting the bone in boiling water, and the sauce would automatically form from the water.

• I think Tally picked to find out where Shay is because she really didn't want to stay ugly. Also, she probably picked finding Shay over staying ugly because she wanted to be with Peris.

Give a chronological of important events that happened in the chapter.

1. Tally decided she wanted to go hoverboarding to pass the time and got scratched by the trees.
2. When Tally was done she went back to her dorm because she was exhausted.
3. When she arrived Peris, her pretty friend, was waiting to talk to her.
4. After they talked, Tally decided to go to the Special Circumstances to change her mind.
5. Tally changed her mind and went looking for Shay in the "smoke" all alone.

Why do you think Peris comes back? Give textual evidence.

• I think Peris comes back because he is wondering why Tally hasn't turned pretty yet and Peris could have just realized that Tally is now in "Pretty Town". Also, he probably came back because he wanted to know if the rumor about the "Special Circumstances" was true.

"Of course I came. The moment i figured out where you were, I came."

• "Everywhere she went, eyes looked away. But it was was the most visible she had ever felt."

• I think this quote is somewhat strange, because even though people weren't looking at her, she still felt visible. Also, another odd part is that her main goal was actually to be invisible.

"Special Circumstances"

In this chapter, after Tally realizes there is a kink, so to speak in her operation, the doctor brings Tally to Dr. Cable. While she is waiting, she finds out that there is a special circumstance she in involved in. She also realizes that Shay, Tally's best Friend ran away from her to be free. So while the doctors question Tally, Tally tries her hardest to answer just enough to get around, but not give to much information away.

Dr. Cable:

1. Non-reflective gray eyes
2. Sharp teeth
3. cruel pretty

"Operation"

• Tally finally turns 16, so she gets to get her operation that will turn her pretty. While she was waiting for the hovercar in New Pretty Town, she thinks about how lonely the new uglies are. When the hovercar finally comes she gets in and is on her way to get her operation. When she arrives, The doctor tells her there is something with her operation so she follows the doctor to the back like she is told.

• I think Tally has something tremendously wrong. I also believe that she is going to have to over come great obstacles to achieve her operation.

• I personally think this quote shows how Shay doesn't care about fitting in with everyone. I think Shay is very correct on this quote.

"Fight"p.76

• In the Chapter "fight", two fights broke out between Tally and Shay. The first fight was more of an act, or a fake in front of a small group, but the second fight was very real. The two fights are not alike because one is fake and for fun, but the other one is real and it's about the operation. I believe the whole reason for the real fight is because of the tremendous conflict of becoming a pretty.

• To me, this quote gives me the idea that the city is an educational place, and that the city is a safe place.

• While Tally and Shay wonder around the Rusy Ruins, they see an objest that stands out from the others, this piece of equiptment wasn't rusty at all. As they examine this piece, the soon find out that the real name of this contraption is actually called a roller coaster. After they realize this, Sahy quickly gets the idea to hoverboard down it.

• " A shaoe emerged from the forest, a long spine that rose and fell like a frozen wave"

• Tally- " I kind of like being fooled about some things"

• Personally, I agree with Tally on this quote, because if you knew every thing that was going to happen, life would be boring. For example, if you get a present that is wrapped up in a PlayStation box, but the gift is actually not a PlayStation, but it's something else you really wanted.

• The Rusty Ruins are the remains of the city when everyone was ugly. During this time, the universe was very chaotic and cruel. For example, if you weren't tall, strong, or smart enough you would be treat very poorly.

• To me peer pressure is when your friends, family etc. push, or work you to do something you don't really want to do.

Example of peer pressure:

• One day when me and my friends were ripping on our long boards, we ran into a steep and narrow hill. When we met with the " hill of doom" my Friends shouted at me to go down it.

• I think Tally and Shay should stop worrying about their appearence, and just have fun with their lives. Tally ans Shay should move on and explore the world.

"Everyone judged everyone else based on their appearence. People who were taller got better jobs...people killed one another over stuff like having differt skin color."

• I beleive that this quote is very, very unfair. Just because someone is taller, or racially different, doesn't meen that they should have unfairness in their world. Also, just because you dont look like someone, that should decide your future.

"It's the only way to make people equal." (becoming pretty)

• This quote to me, isn't neccisarily correct. I say this because, if you change your outter looks, that might change your appearence, but it doesn't change who you are on the inside.

"Wipeout" p.33

• In the video game "Ratchet and Clank", the futuristic based game, the people of the city use the hover board for an easy and fun way to get around their town. The boards are used by a touched based interface, and they hover about six inches off the ground.

• I think pretties don't visit Uglyville because they like the lifestyle of a pretty better than an ugly. Also, They probably forget what their old life was like, and they make themselves believe that they are to great and pretty for dropping down a level.
